Mobility practises in higher education through out Europe started in 1987 with pilot projects.

  1. Mobility practiced as student/ staff exchange has experienced a structural change and an increase since 1995.
  2. Within the context of Socrates Programme, Erasmus was given the largest amount of fund and within the scope of Erasmus, mobility was given the largest amount of fund.

In brief, mobility is
the engine of change on the way to “New Europe”,

  1. The foundation of Bologna Process
  2. The key to European dimension in higher education
  3. The driving force behind making the European Higher Education Area more attractive.

It is put forth that unless mobility is practiced on a larger scale, Bologna will be limited down to a national move.
